What makes you lucky?

I've been thinking about luck and the concept of being lucky today. Someone said to me this morning, oh you've had a really bad luck.

But is what I've had luck?  Is anything in life down to luck, or to chance, or to control? It's an interesting concept to think through, I'm sure you could get extremely philosophical about the whole thing.

I've had bad things happen to me but then haven't we all? At some point in our lives we have looked up and gone, well that was crap. But then more often than not, life pushes us forward to ask the question, what next?

Take last week for instance, I was quite unwell for the majority of quite an important work assignment. Bad luck? Bad circumstances?
I was away from home,  I was away with a team that I unfortunately don't get to work with that often so I didn't feel as confident in raising my hand and saying I wasn't at my best and as I said, it was quite a big deal to the Senior Management that it went well.
Flip it on its head for a moment... I was away from home, well yes but it meant that I didn't have the usual worries of keeping my house running as well.  I was away with a different team, yes but I managed to reconnect with all of them who came to understand what was going on. We had a great week, aside from the fact I wasn't at my best and as usual, I was the one getting picked on!
Even with all the bad things, there were good things too! I had good friends on the job with me, meaning there were many moments where we burst into hysterical giggles and I realised exactly what I was doing all this for.

There are somethings that will just happen . Everything else is down to chance.

And gave new life to what was frozen..

So let's see if I can remember how to do this.

Over the past few years, my life has changed beyond all recognition. I'd like to think that underneath the changes, I am still the same person I've always strived to be. Someone who is kind to others is incredibly important. After all, being kind and polite costs nothing.

I am 26 years old, I live in North London and really, I'm still finding my way in the world. What it is that I was sent here to do. Whilst I don't proclaim to be religious, I do believe that we are all sent here with a purpose and a journey. Rightly or wrongly, events in life do pull us off these journeys and it's up to us to get back on track. Life is not about the end point, it's about what has happened in between the beginning and the end.

Guiding is something that has recently re-appeared back in my life. So I'm sure that will crop up a few times! I am a qualified (recently!)  Brownie and Guide Leader! I am Guider-in-Charge at 4th Friern Barnet Guide Unit and I assist at 4th Friern Barnet Brownie Unit. I had the best time in Guiding when I was a child, so it's great to be able to give back to the next generation. It's something that I am still very much finding my feet. The Summer Term will be my first term as the Unit Leader for Guides so ask me when term ends how it's gone. I've got big shoes to try and fill!

I'm fortunate to be blessed with a small but perfectly formed family who still live in my home county of Leicestershire. I sadly lost my Dad just over 2 and half a years ago to Prostate Cancer. It's something that you never get over and I'm still finding ways to get through everyday.  I also have two beautiful Basset Hounds called Harriet and Holly, who never fail to make me laugh.

I've not had the best run of luck over the last couple of years, with one thing or another.  The important thing that I try to remind myself of is, I'm still here and I'm still blessed to be here every single day. I have friends and family who are determined to keep me on the straight and narrow, and I owe it to them to fight every single step of the way.

I've been enjoying a wonderful quality of life over the past 6 months, and long may it continue!

Hopefully some more normal, day-to-day, type blogs to follow! But then, what's normal?!
